A twit or two
If we look at the way handball has been followed by media in countries like Italy, we could state that there is very little coverage.
The sport is absent on national TV networks, newspapers and magazines. Is this coverage issue due only to a dismal lack of international results or maybe something else?
Even at the time of the glorious days of Concetto Lo Bello's presidency and Lino Cervar, handball struggled a lot to carve its own space in the media.Perhaps Italy is not a suitable country where handball could become a top sport? Or maybe we should shift the blame to the federation and teams'managers?
If France and Spain, two other Mediterranean countries have become so strong in handball, I do not see why in due course Italy could not become one as well.
We should go to those countries and check what it has been done in order to prosper. There is nothing wrong in doing that;though I heard few times in the Italian handball community people saying that there is very little to learn from abroad, which is utter bollocks in my opinion.
Take for example the presence of handball on Twitter. The vast majority of French and Spanish teams got individual twitter accounts which are updated daily. The same applies to many top players who have thousands and thousands of followers. Just as an example @VictorTomas8 the Barcelona player got more than 11000 followers.
My suggestion would be for the the vast majority of Italian teams to create their own Twitter accounts. The same should be for their players.
Opening and managing a Twitter account is easy.So I can not see why only a handful of Serie A clubs like @hcconversano got one.
I am sure few people will laugh at my suggestion but trust me, it would be a first step forward to make handball more popular.
