A true Italian handball Renaissance

As many people know Italian handball has been in a deep crisis for the last 20 years. After the historic qualification to the 1997 Kumamoto World Cup Tournament, where the men'national team lead by Cervar did make Italian fans proud, the sport started to plummet in terms of results, numbers of players and popularity. There are few reasons behind it: a lack of a professional approach into managing Italian teams, the Federation and developing the game into schools.Furthermore a big slice of the blame goes also to the negative, provincial and the power thirsty mentality of the average Italian handball administrator. Indeed today such a situation reflects the Italian political scene at large. The new format of the men's top league, did hurt the tarnished image of the sport greatly. The quality of playing according to many observers has decreased to an all time low.Few spectators attending matches,a very limited media coverage unless on the local scene. There are few positive initiative though: Futura project,"La Grande Famiglia dell'Handball" project and so many former players, coaches and fans getting enthusiast again about handball after so many years of "Dark Ages". It is only about keeping momentum. A true Italian handball Renaissance is on the making.
